Barbara Ostertag is a well-reviewed alto opera singer who feels at home in all areas of lyric literature. With her technique and tessitura, she impresses with her rich artistic and educational background.

Barbara Ostertag was born and raised in Freiburg im Breisgau where she studied musicology and opera singing. Her musical repertoire ranges from the Renaissance to present day music. Regarding oratorio and choral symphonic works, she mainly performs works from the Classical and Romantic periods (including Mozart, Mendelssohn and Rossini); she has given several song recitals (Viardot, Britten, Schönberg, Spanish guitar songs).

She is also well known as a singer-actress, particularly with modern classical music (Vivier, Johnson). Another focus is ensemble singing (Balthasar Neumann Choir, SCHOLA HEIDELBERG). She has worked with conductors such as Thomas Hengelbrock, Ivor Bolton and Hans-Michael Beuerle.

Concert tours have taken the artist to the USA/Canada, Australia and South Korea, among other places. Numerous recordings from Capricornus to Xenakis testify to her versatile voice. In addition, she has been working as a teacher for vocal arts for many years (including at the University of Music in Freiburg), also across genre boundaries.
