"Amphiphilia"

BASF Feierabendhaus

Trickster Orchestra

"As part of BASF’s Tor 4 cultural sponsorship program, "The Trickster Orchestra" has set out in search of the "new WE." Founded by Cymin Samawati and Ketan Bhatti, the ensemble has been successfully exploring, for several years now, a musical language that does justice to the diversity of society. With a keen enthusiasm for the unknown, this extremely diverse orchestra – featuring soloists from a wide variety of musical worlds – combines European, West, Central, and East Asian influences with improvisation and electronics to create trans-traditional music. To conclude its residency at BASF, it is now joining forces with musicians from various ensembles in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region to form a unique, genre- and boundary-transcending ensemble. The concert centers on the world premiere of the commissioned work "Amphiphilia," created collaboratively in the spirit of a "new WE." Following the property of amphiphilic substances to be both water-loving and fat-loving, familiar stylistic elements dissolve in this piece into a new overall sound born of improvisation and collective composition."
