It was founded in 1987 by the singer Roswitha Sperber and is now sponsored by the city. This year, Sarah Nemtsov continued the history of this important award. Two of her works were performed at the award winners' concert: the world premiere of “Schatten zu” for six-part a cappella choir, and “Tikkun,” the final part of a large cycle for ensemble and orchestra from 2021. They were accompanied by an instrumental fantasy by the Polish-Russian composer Mieczyslaw Weinberg, as well as Claude Debussy's “Trois Nocturnes” and his famous “Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune,” which is considered the spark that ignited musical impressionism.
