Necessity is the mother of invention – and so members of our ensembles came together for a joint project – without actually meeting.

Not even circumstances as dire as the current crisis prevented our musicians from making music together. "Splendid Isolation" is the name of our composition project, in which four instrumentalists from the ensemble aisthesis each wrote two-minute descriptions of their state of mind during the first lockdown; these have now been musically adapted and set to music by four singers from SCHOLA HEIDELBERG based on a concept by Ekkehard Windrich (*1974). Together with current stock market data and statistical analyses of texts and figures, the texts form the compositional basis for the vocal passages recorded "at home" by four singers from SCHOLA HEIDELBERG. This results in a decentralized interweaving of voices, from which Ekkehard Windrich composed and assembled SPLENDID ISOLATION.
