7:15 p.m.: Introduction
Since time immemorial, humanity’s view of the cosmos has had a dual perspective: that of observation and that of projection. The oldest speculations of human inquiry have focused on the observable changes in the heavens, documented since the time of Pythagoras. Even in pre-Socratic times, the same simple "harmonic" numerical ratios were used to represent planets and their orbits as well as musical harmonies and intervals.
The project is being held for the first time in collaboration between KlangForum Heidelberg and the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy (MPIA) in Heidelberg, a partnership that allows the event’s concept, format, and venue to be seamlessly integrated: the House of Astronomy, built in 2011 on the Königstuhl, houses not only research laboratories but also a lecture hall with a dome projection system. Normally used to popularize astronomical research and facilitate exchange within the research community, this extraordinary space opens up to interdisciplinary and artistic interaction with New Music in "Sternbild: Mensch." (Star Constellation: Human)
The concert on November 16 marks the kickoff of this new concert series introduced by KlangForum Heidelberg, for which the KlangForum has commissioned two compositions. The works by Bernhard Lang ("Hermetika VII"), Matthias Ockert, and others will be interwoven within the concert program with spoken contributions (of a scientific, philosophical, and poetic nature), projections, and exemplary vocal works from the Renaissance, thereby enabling a direct contextualization of the pieces being performed.
Works by Matthias Ockert (world premiere), Bernhard Lang (world premiere), as well as Schütz, Maderna, Stockhausen, and others.
Directions: You can reach the "Haus der Astronomie" by taking bus line 30 from Peterskirche (departure: 7:27 p.m.) to the Haus der Astronomie (arrival: 7:40 p.m.). For the return trip, RNV call taxis can be ordered upon request.
Sponsor and initiator: Tor 4 – BASF promotes art
Why is everything actually getting better? Sixteen projects spanning music, dance, and literature through to the visual arts explore this question. They are the result of the new cultural funding program Tor 4, through which BASF aims to stimulate discourse in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. The company issues a socially relevant question, to which institutions can submit art projects. BASF is providing approximately 500,000 euros for this purpose.
