Dignity – whose?
30 years KlangForum Heidelberg
“Dignity – whose?” is the question of a fundamental law of coexistence—in our spaces, our domains, our world, and our present. And perhaps in others as well.
But is it really enough to ask ourselves about ourselves? And isn't the question so close to us, in times of war and crisis, precisely because dignity can only ever be grasped as endangered, absent, and violated?
Since its founding by Walter Nussbaum 30 years ago, KlangForum Heidelberg has systematically refused to limit itself to pure music programming: “Understanding with the senses” (Greek: aisthesis) thus also applies to our festival weekend, which has a broader theme: the diversity of dignity and its manifestations, as well as the danger of its loss.
Our anniversary celebration from October 20-23, 2022, will be a multidisciplinary forum that will musically and spatially assemble, contrast, and combine lectures, panel discussions, introductions to works, and interpretations. It has been conceived since 2020 in collaboration with Heidelberg philosopher Enno Rudolph.
