Music in Context: Film II "A Clockwork Orange"
BETRIEBSWERK Heidelberg
Pianist Hinrich Alpers, winner of the 2009 "International Telekom Beethoven Competition," will present a lecture concert, together with his partner, film producer Jan Harlan, at BETRIEBSWERK Heidelberg. The music of Ludwig van Beethoven from Stanley Kubrick’s famous film "A Clockwork Orange" plays a special role in the event. Thanks to Jan Harlan’s personal relationship with Stanley Kubrick – whose brother-in-law and estate administrator he is – the audience gains intimate insights into the film’s making. The combination of conversation, film clips, and piano works by Franz Liszt, Gioachino Rossini, and Henry Purcell promises the audience a varied evening. The event will explore in depth the question of whether the digitization of humans is feasible and desirable in order to condition people to conform to a certain behavior, and further, whether this behavior is even considered meaningful.
